I found a bird with a broken wing
A beautiful golden bird
I took it home fed it and held it
As the wing mended
I built a handsome cage for my new friend
And placed it in the cage
Everyday the golden bird sang to me
And all was well
One day I came home the bird was not singing
it was on the bottom of the cage
I hurried to open the door
And the bird flew out
Through the window back to freedom
And the world it had known
A long sadness followed
And I longed for the sweet songs of the golden bird
It then occurred to me that the bird needed to go
Since its wing had healed it was time to be set free
As bye and bye the sweet songs of the golden bird
Flowed in and out of my mind
My soul was set free
It had a broken wing
